Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster Review
The world of sleek and shiny sports cars is filled with eye stoppers from neon colors to curvy silhouettes but only a few of them give us the thrill of perfectly pottered, sleekly varnished, sexy looking gullwing cars. The new 2012 Mercedes SLS AMG provides this to crazy wheel lovers and so much more. The sight of this beautiful maiden from upfront is breathtaking as it looks like “Bumblebee” right out of Transformers movie with open wings. The 6.3 liter engine size, the very small amount of fuel consumption and the jaw-dropping price of 168, 395 pounds, sound raw meat in front of the roof-attached sexy car doors that open up towards the sky. The gullwing doors are the most stunning and eye-grabbing asset of the new Mercedes SLS AMG.
The doors also keep you dry outside of the car if it’s raining and although it is a little long stretch out to reach the doors and close them, the entrance and exit from a car has never looked as sexier as it looks in the new hot wheels of Mercedes SLS AMG. But the gullwing doors have always been criticized for a quick death route if an accident occurs and a car lands on its roof. The new SLS has sorted out this tweak by getting the roof-attached hinges to blast if such a disaster occurs.
The AMG family is famous for extremely robust engines but the Mercedes SLS AMG has by far the most powerful engine out there. The M-159 has an all new intake system and thus is less noisy. It’s valve setup is more agile with steel headers and a de-throttled exhaust system. The engine is connected with the dual clutch gearbox and revs or shifts more smoothly than other AMG cars. There is also a manual shifter for the gear but this system has been found to be a bit slow. Although Mercedes has stated that only a span of 100 milliseconds but it has been found to be much slower as the car responds a bit late to the actual use of the paddle. This can be quite unnerving and disconcerting but Mercedes SLS AMG is a sweet ride and the fastest one on the road.
If we take in the rest of the car it looks more like a modernized version of the 300SL giving us the same sexy style, sleek finish and the performance of a tiger. The vehicle can be rated as safe for its users. The Mercedes SLS AMG is very long and its width ranges to be about 2m. The rear axle holds up the cabin while the bonnet seems to stretch out towards the long road ahead of it. What does this new Mercedes SLS AMG keep inside in this long, sleek bonnet, you ask? It houses a huge V8 that can rev up to 62 mph in a few seconds and even climbs up to 197 mph when fully revved up. You do not have to turn the painful key in the ignition; Mercedes SLS AMG has the start button which makes it roar like an unleashed lion. The car seems to fly at the fastest of speeds and seems to feel happy all revved up on the long motorway. The only thing left for this sleek, shiny ‘Transformer’ machine left to do is to open those gullwing doors and fly away into the horizon…
